How to Prepare for your First Quality Assurance Tester Job Interview

Let’s pretend you have completed your professional software quality assurance training course at Spin Career. Now, you should prepare for your first interview and probably your first job opportunity.

You will be asked several questions during your interview.  One of the most common QA questions is, “Tell me about yourself, QA tester.” Most QA specialists don’t know how to tackle this question. Luckily, we will help you answer this question to get your first job.

Let the Recruiter Know More About You

Even if the interviewers have your resume at hand, they still ask this question to discover more about you. It is not a trick question, and you will be just fine if you follow this order:

  1. Start by stating your name and place of birth.
  2. Go ahead and highlight your education to the recruiter. You can start with the most recent level of education down. Don’t forget to mention the name of the institutions and your aggregate percentage for each level.
  3. Now that the recruiter knows your name, place of birth, and education, it is time to highlight your academic projects.
  4. Highlight your work experience. Freshers should focus on their skills and relevant experience. On the other hand, focus on your work experience if you have QA experience.
  5. Let the recruiter know more about your goals. For instance, you can tell the recruiter how you wish to further your education.
  6. Talk about your strengths and weaknesses. Highlight your strengths to prove you are the right candidate for the job. It is also wise to talk about some of your weaknesses and how you plan to overcome them.
  7. Finally, summarize everything you have just said.

When talking about your work experience, make sure to highlight some of your most outstanding achievements. If you are experienced, make sure to talk about your past positions and your responsibility.

If you have never worked as a quality assurance specialist in the past, it would be best to speak about your skills and qualifications. Let the recruiter know that you are the right person for the job, even if you are starting.

Once you are done answering this question, remember to ask the interviewers if there is something else they would like to know about you. Never speak about irrelevant things when answering this question.
